Food fair gives business tips on a platter

NEW DELHI: For those planning to turn their hobbies like baking and cooking into business, the ongoing Aahaar International Fair at Pragati Maidan is the place to be. From all kinds of appliances and utensils to sugar-free cakes and organic vegetables, the fair has a lot to offer.
With professionals and international chefs making food and giving tips that can save a dish, visitors can learn the art of cooking. "The cakes are so beautiful that it's impossible to resist them. One can also learn how to decorate the cakes," said Neerja Gulati, a visitor.
However, the fair is more of a treat for the eyes as most of the ready-to-eat food on display is not for sale. While one can sample some of the items, most of them are only for display.
"The food tastes really good but the platters aren't for sale. It's not for the foodies but for those who want to start up a business," said another visitor, Parul Khambuja. But the organic food and sugar-free cakes seems to be the favourite.
Pulses, veggies and fruits are available on discount and there are great deals for wholesalers. "Usually the organic food is quite expensive. But here one can get it raw materials and daily supplies at a cheap price," said the volunteer at a corporate's Organic food stall.
For diabetics, the fair has many things to offer, from juices and processed food to cakes, which are healthy and easy to make. At the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's stall, people are told how to ensure their food is safe. All the safety measures that the producer should take are highlighted along with all kind of information for the consumers.
The fair will be there till Saturday, March 15, and from 10am-6pm. The entry is free for entrepreneurs and passes are available at all Metro stations.
